Columbia, S.C. — Jaime Harrison, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate, offered the following response to a troubling article in The Atlantic yesterday evening regarding President Trump’s comments about servicemembers captured or killed in action, including Sen. John McCain and President George H.W. Bush. The reporting was also corroborated by The Washington Post and the Associated Press.
“As someone raised in a family of veterans, it was difficult to read this article last night,” Harrison said. “These remarks defiling the memories of Sen. John McCain, President George H.W. Bush, and veterans everywhere were appalling, and displayed a fundamental lack of appreciation for our servicemembers. South Carolina has a proud military tradition, and it is incumbent on elected officials in this state to put partisanship aside and condemn these comments.”
