Columbia, S.C. — Today, Jaime Harrison, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate, offered the following statement in response to the expiration of the State Supreme Court-mandated eviction stay in South Carolina. This expiration could mean that some families could even be evicted as soon as today.
“With this level of economic chaos, letting families get tossed out of their homes right now would be nothing short of heartless,” Harrison said. “More than 450,000 South Carolinians have applied for unemployment relief in the last few months, and much more pain lies ahead. In this time unlike any other in recent memory, I’m calling on Governor McMaster to follow the lead of other governors – both Republicans and Democrats – who have paused eviction proceedings throughout their states. This is time for compassion – not adding insult to injury.”
