Columbia, S.C. —   Today, Jaime Harrison, Democratic Senate challenger, released the following statement criticizing Lindsey Graham for voting for the GOP Tax bill, which raised the national debt to $1 trillion.

“Lindsey Graham has left South Carolinians to shoulder the burden of our nation’s debt,” Harrison said. “While supporting deductions for millionaire corporate executives, Sen. Graham voted against key middle and working class tax credits essential for thousands of South Carolinians. His only concern is pleasing his wealthy donors, not the South Carolinians he was elected to represent.”

Today, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) announced the U.S. is expected to reach a $1.02 trillion deficit this year. On December 20, 2017, Lindsey Graham voted in favor of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. According to the Campaign for Children, the bill strips the Child Tax Credit (CTC) from over one million children. The bill also added $1.9 trillion to the deficit, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). This deficit could force massive tax hikes on our children.
