Columbia, S.C. —   Today, Jaime Harrison, Democratic Senate challenger, released the following statement criticizing Lindsey Graham for flip-flopping again on allowing witnesses during the impeachment trial.

“Lindsey Graham’s initial refusal to hear from witnesses is yet another flip-flop in his effort to defend the Washington establishment,” Harrison said. “Lindsey failed to abide by his oath of impartiality, saw the winds shifting and made his decision to maintain political relevance, not uphold the convictions and morals he once had. There’s not a bone in his body that holds up South Carolina’s values of fairness, honesty and justice.”

In 1999, Lindsey Graham argued that witnesses were necessary to any just and fair impeachment trial. He said, “When you have a witness who was there, who was engaged in it, who was in the middle of it, telling you about what they were doing and why, that’s a totally different case ― and it’s the difference between getting the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.”

More than 20 years later, Lindsey Graham says he hopes “nobody will be called as a witness.” This includes former National Security Advisor John Bolton. Two days ago though, Lindsey Graham, according to a report by the Washington Examiner, was considering calling witnesses.
