Columbia, S.C. — Today, Jaime Harrison, candidate for U.S. Senate, released the following statement after Gov. Henry McMaster announced federal waivers that will enable the government to establish work requirements for Medicaid recipients.
“I am disappointed by the Governor’s decision today and Sen. Graham’s support of work requirements geared to ripping away healthcare from over 14,000 South Carolinians,” Harrison said. “As someone who grew up in poverty, I know just how difficult it is to live without proper healthcare. My grandfather lived for years with undiagnosed diabetes, leading to him losing a leg. We should be delivering solutions that increase access to affordable, quality care instead of playing political games with the health of poor residents of the Palmetto State. South Carolinians deserve better than this.”
